From rural farming roots to a global brand

Glanbia’s organic growth story is a truly impressive one: From humble farming co-operative roots in rural Ireland to expanding internationally to become one of the biggest names in nutrition.

“As we stand today, Glanbia is over a $5bn revenue company, serving consumers across the world," said Mark Garvey, Group Finance Director of Glanbia. “We’ve over 6,000 employees and we’re very proud of where we’ve come from.”

“Working with HSBC has enabled us to have a very strong banking relationship for our revolving credit facility (RCF),” he said.

“Globally, they are our number one provider in supply chain financing. That has been really important for us in terms of day-to-day transactions with our major suppliers.

“We find our relationship with HSBC very productive. As we look to important growth areas for us, in Asia-Pacific and Latin America, HSBC are a very important partner for us, as they have significant knowledge of these markets, in terms of their own operations, as well as clients they’ve helped to grow.”

HSBC supports Glanbia internationally with payment services in Asia, Oceania, and North America and provide working capital facilities to fund their business.

“It’s been fantastic for HSBC to play a significant role with them on that journey,” said Laura Trimble, CEO and Head of Wholesale Banking, HSBC Ireland.

“Glanbia were looking for a partner to scale internationally,” said Russell Williamson, Head of Large Corporates, HSBC Commercial Banking Ireland. “The network we have, in terms of our global connectivity, was an ideal partnership for them.”

“To see them grow into a leading global nutrition company is a fantastic thing to be part of.”
